Fall Financial Aid Workshops

Ramp up your skills, energize your program, and connect with colleagues.

The 2010 Fall Financial Aid Workshops will be held on several dates throughout the fall. At each event listed below, the first day is the New Professionals Day, followed by the two-day Financial Aid Workshop.

About the Workshop & New Professionals Day

At the Financial Aid Workshop, led by seasoned financial aid practitioners, you will have the opportunity to:

  • share solutions to common challenges;
  • understand SSS methodology and how to best use SSS resources;
  • gain experience using new features of Comp*Assist Online; and
  • equip yourself with tools to better manage the financial aid season.

The New Professionals Day is geared to financial aid professionals with less than two years of experience. This day of programming will provide them with a starter toolkit and resources to help understand and execute their responsibilities. They will leave knowing where to start, how to communicate to families, and what all those acronyms mean. NOTE: Individuals who attended the 2010 Institute for New Financial Aid Professionals should not register for the New Professionals Day.

What's New for 2010? Working with the 2010 Fall Workshop Task Force, a 12-member group of financial aid practitioners, we reframed the New Professional Day and Financial Aid Workshop content. The re-vamped approach provides programming to meet all experience levels, offered in a variety of learning methods, all with the goal of preparing you to meet your day-to-day demands. This year’s workshop will include general sessions, break-out sessions on best practices, case discussions, and Comp*Assist Online training.

"The interactions with other financial aid professionals are infinitely helpful at the SSS Financial Aid Workshops. Working on case studies, everyone had a chance to share their own experiences and how they handled different problems.  After hearing seasoned professionals talk about situations that I could never have imagined coming up, I felt much more prepared for my first year."
- Deanna Belcher, The School at Columbia University (NY)
